The AVE project (Agent-Based Virtual Economies project) is focused on development of the sandbox environment for research, testing and experimentation in following areas:

  • Agent-based systems and models

  • Supply chain management

  • Adaptive production

  • Transportation and logistics

  • Economic models

  • Decision making and control on strategic, tactical, and operational level(s)

  • Consumer behaviour

  • Optimization methods

  • Group decision making, cooperation, and coordination

  • Competitive behaviour

  • Emergent behaviour

  • Etc.

Essential for the project is application of agent-based technologies, specifically Anylogic platform, for implementation and modelling. Main programming language in this project is Java. Effort is divided into two main areas:

  • Large-scale agent-based models
    • Simplified user-interface and graphical design

    • Large number of agents in the model (over 1M, typically in hundreds of thousands)

    • Study of primarily macroeconomic phenomena

    • Distributed computing

    • Development of our own platform derived from JADE

  • Medium-scale agent-based models
    • Use of environment developed in Anylogic

    • 2D and 3D scenes in model

    • Environment based on GIS data (in development)

    • Typically hundreds of agents in single region/area

    • Verification of optimization methods, decision-making algorithms, simulations
